Methodology

Every public compound on SharpSyn has a page at /c/{InChIKey}, with a machine-readable twin at /c/{InChIKey}.json. This page explains where each number on it comes from.

Which compounds have a page

A compound gets a page when its record is public and has a valid InChIKey. Private and partner-only compounds, and records kept for demonstration, have no page. A page is open to search engines only once it carries real data: at least one verified public supplier, or a carbon footprint from producer primary data or a sourced published factor. Pages without that are marked noindex until data arrives.

Suppliers

A verified supplier is a producer whose SharpSyn profile is public and who lists the compound publicly. Supplier counts, regions, grades and lead-time ranges are aggregated from those public listings only. Supplier names, private quotes and prices shared with partners are never published.

Prices

• market-derived: the range (lowest to highest) of public prices per kg from at least three different verified suppliers in one currency. Below three suppliers no range is shown, so no single supplier's price can be read off it.
• estimated: SharpSyn's own indicative estimate per kg, not a quote.

Each price carries its data date. Prices in different currencies are never mixed or converted, and only prices per unit of mass are used.

Carbon footprint (PCF)

Cradle-to-gate, GWP100 (IPCC AR6), in kg CO₂e per kg of compound. The first available tier wins:

0. Tier 0, producer primary data: a value a verified public producer declared for its own product, with its source.
1. Tier 1, sourced factor: a published value (EPD, government dataset, peer-reviewed paper), stored with source, licence and the verbatim figure it comes from. Data from ecoinvent, GaBi/Sphera and other non-redistributable databases is never used.
2. Tier 2, formula screening: an estimate from the molecular formula (element model calibrated to sourced anchors), applied only to simple C/H/O molecules, with a ±30 % band and a model version. Outside that domain, a value is taken from the most similar sourced anchor only when the similarity is high enough.

Where none of these applies, no value is published. Nothing is guessed.

Directional cradle-to-gate estimate (GWP100, IPCC AR6). Material factors are full cradle-to-gate, but our own synthesis steps carry no process energy, so the route value is a lower bound. Screening values are modelled from the molecular formula (±30%, simple C/H/O molecules only) and are not third-party verified (not ISO 14067 / TfS defensible). For indicative comparison only; producer-maintained values with a source take precedence.

Freshness

Pages are rebuilt shortly after the underlying data changes and in full every night. "Last updated" is the latest change to the data the page states.
